Good things

My interview went well! I might actually have a chance. I can't believe I'm going for a job that would make me go back to the office, but here we are. I must really be ready for a change.
The Best Friend is officially into The Untamed and has been texting me screenshots and impressions all morning. <3
I finally deactivated my twitter after a full eighteen months of waffling!
Finished reading Rules for Vanishing in two days and it was just as scary as promised! It's been way too long since I read anything so creepy; it was great. (~~Although now I don't know what to read next help~~)
The developing friendship between Goth Doctor Chu and Little Guo on Guardian is so adorable I can't handle it. Also, Protective!Shen Wei is pleasantly smoldering. I love it when the forever-calm character only gets riled up when their person is in danger.
Evenings lately have involved lots of records and ping-pong, almost making me forget it's an arctic hellscape outside.

thoughts after watching Guardian, episode 9

These are maybe less...er, frenetic...than last night's? I'm not on cold meds today and I'm writing this up after watching the episode instead of during. (That was fun, though, might do again, sans Nyquil.)

Anyway, onwards, in no particular order!

Are we meant to understand that Snake Girl like-likes Chief Zhao? She keeps commenting on how he's usually so coldhearted and it's weird how considerate he is with Shen Wei. Aw. I like her character so far and want more! She's all protective but stern, especially around Ghost Girl this ep. (I know they said GG's name a dozen times but I don't trust my memory to the spelling yet--Wang something? I'll get there!)
Loving the shamelessness of them throwing Shen Wei and the SID into each other's path constantly (although this seemed like Shen Wei's intent this time? He was so insistent Chief His-Secret-Soulmate not leave the city because of...reasons...but he also mentioned this little field trip earlier so idk)
Hands up if you were not surprised Little Sillycheeks Guo ordered a sex doll.*
~~Shallow~~ Important point: this episode features Shen Wei in casual clothes! Jeans! A t-shirt! With...the sleeves of a flannel shirt buttoned to the t-shirt's sleeves to make them extra ~~confusing~~ long, or to make up for the lack of sleeve garters!**
CHIEF NORTHFACE GAVE SHEN WEI HIS JACKET AND SHEN WEI DRAPED IT OVER HIS SHOULDERS, THEY ARE SUCH BOYFRIENDS
Random townsman putting on a mask trying to scare off the city people by yelling at them through the window was very funny, as was his mistaking Hot Topic Baddie's horde of ghosts for his friends just showing up to continue the prank
Speaking of HTB, I have no idea who he is or what he wants or why, so that's...exciting? Haha I hope I'm not just dumb and haven't missed anything but I don't think we're supposed to understand yet
Okay so Ghost Girl! I'm reluctant to say much bc we clearly don't have the full story yet--the last flashback suggests she was killed for some kind of witchcraft though. I need more about her AND this weirdass town
oh oh I almost forgot, Chief had a flashback of his own! Of which I of course understood nothing. But I'm excited for so much more backstory on all the characters.

* But seriously, Chief Ridiculous Expectations, what did you think was going to happen? Is there a big market for human-sized dolls that aren't being used for kinky purposes? (Wait, now I'm really asking. I have no idea.)

**Okay help me, what are the sleeve garters FOR? Are they to keep his shirt sleeves from...falling...down...no. I have no idea. I will eventually Google it but for now I'm pretty sure they're there to be inexplicably hot. /shallow

Hey, any Guardian fans reading this, is there a YouTube channel you'd rec to watch this on? I'm a little dubious about the translation I'm watching and want to make sure I'm not missing out on one that's more accurate. Thanks!! <3

Goth Doctor Who obviously has a Tragic Backstory and he's being all gruff with Little Guo because he reminds him of his BROTHER AHHH I live for this shit--please give me more of Little Guo aging him prematurely by being mostly incompetent but also too good for this world and Goth Doctor Who being cranky and judgmental (but Secretly Soft)
OH OH!! Actual backstory for Ghost Girl! only five seconds but still! Can't be in the sunlight, check.

All Things Swift and Bright, Chapter two, plus some early thoughts on Guardian

I meant to get in the habit of posting my updates in here, but I think I've got some kind of ick coming on (please not flu, please not flu!) and things have been so BUSY my brain is not at its sharpest. (Just the state I like to be in while doing final chapter edits!)

Anyway, lacking flourish, but:

I'm super excited for some of the plot and character stuff coming up! It feels so nice to have a project again, like life is back in balance.

In other news, I started watching Guardian because I keep seeing Untamed fans talking about it and figured hey, I like liking stuff. Plus I read a description of it and ummmm, this is EXACTLY in my wheelhouse. So far I'm six episodes in and I'm not sure I know anyone's name yet (Chief Oral Fixation is...Zhao? Yunlan? Did I make that up? And Professor Secret God is...Shen? Wei? Maybe? I'd look it up but I don't want spoilers. There's definitely someone named Jing Lin ("definitely"--a bold claim), which makes me laugh and think of Jin Ling every time).

But it's really fun so far! One of the guy's a cat, but only sometimes. Some of the "monster of the week" plots have been stronger than others, and some of the effects are hilarious, but I'm really loving the characters and their interactions. I love a workplace found-family kind of thing. I still don't know what's up with the two main guys--it seems like Professor Secret Black Robes knows who Chief I-Want-His-Wardrobe is, but the Chief doesn't recognize him? Except in the very first scene it seemed like he did? But maybe he just has a feeeeeling. I don't know if we're dealing with all immortals or if the Chief's been reincarnated or something but I'm intrigued! And the secret identity dynamic is fun, and their interactions have a pleasant tension and I'm excited to see more of them, and also more of the other members of SID. The scenes between Scarf Guy and Young Trips-a-lot have been endearing. I suspect Scarf Guy is softer than he appears. And I'm hoping the ladies get more to do soon! And that I learn people's names so my reviews won't be so confusing.
